Sounds too good to be true that he would be interested in NJ. Supposedly he is leaning Boston, his hometown.

As I said when I first saw this, I still think it is a long shot for us but I would love to see him in a Devils jersey! That said, I would still put my money on him signing with the Bruins.

Exciting for the Devils.

Still pretty wild though that he's getting so much attention and hasn't played a game at the pro level yet.

It'll be interesting to see (wherever he goes) how he does.

EDIT: Cool to see teams like the Leafs, Sabres, etc. becoming places where guys want to go because they're rebuilding the right way.

He's going to Boston. He knows what teams have and the money is all the same so he's likely got somewhere already in mind and he's going to wait and sign there. I know if I was in his position I'd sign at home too.

If Shero pulled that off...a young, exciting, scoring forward...our LW side would be stacked and would make me feel just that more comfortable with Cammalleri on the 3rd line if it became Vesey-Zajac-Palmieri. If he could play RW he'd have an even more solid shot with Hall and Henrique when he'd be up against DSP and Bennett for that spot.

Agreed.

To be perfectly honest, I don't quite understand the hype around the kid.

His buddy and linemate Alexander Kerfoot might be swaying him, why isn't Kerfoot in development camp?

Another year, another circus surrounding the decision of an over-hyped college free agent that spurned the team that drafted him and will become an average-or-worse NHL player.

Agreed and agreed. He's a 23 year old who hasn't played a second of professional hockey anywhere.

Please don't get yourselves excited, Jersey fans. There is a zero percent chance he signs with the Devils

Not really "excited" by it, but interested to see why we would be in the running and if it is turning around that all things equal (as if he wasn't from Boston) NJ might be a destination people want to go to at this point. I mean honestly, if the Devils keep up the trend of trading for 23-24 yr old guys they could very easily be sold on Hoboken from the other mid 20s guys. I don't get why those that follow other teams think ANY player would leave in or near Newark....25 minutes North and you are talking one of the wealthiest counties in the United States.

In the next CBA the NHL really needs to address this. 20-somethings shouldn't have this kind of power and privilege. I like the structure of a ETC and how it potentially leads to team control through RFA, but this loophole is awful.

If you want to tell me that the kids gamble on themselves staying healthy and producing then, although I'm still not on board, teams should be given a compensation draft pick if that players opts not to sign.

That's just my opinion. I think it's bad business, and just bad morals, to have the opportunity to demand what you want in a business/league where you've done absolutely nothing to deserve that right.

Rumors of a deal with the framework of Zacha + Kinkaid for JVR. I do it but only if we can extend him come the contract expiration in 2 years.

Also saw it on another site, but I figured now that there is 2, it may not be as much of a fluke.

I'd pass on that. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have JVR, but trading Zacha, our best offensive prospect that is just 19yr old, for a 27yr old would be a step in the wrong direction. We aren't contenders just yet; at most we are now a bubble team. Stick to the plan and give the kids a chance to grow.

I get the Larsson deal but Zacha was Shero's first pick as GM and we don't even know what he could be yet, granted that could be good or bad. Larsson probably hasnt reached his potential but has been in the league. Zacha has played one NHL game. IMO it looks a little strange to trade the guy you took first rd in your first year at a new org, and flip him after one year.
